Integrative Medicine for Mental Health

A Botton-up Approach to Your Wellness

Integrative medicine for mental health takes a whole-person, root-cause approach to therapy. Within the scope of my training, I help you better understand how your mind and body respond to stressors, and how those responses may be impacting your overall well-being.

In our work together, I incorporate education on a range of factors that influence mental health including hormones, the gut microbiome, neurotransmitters, nutrition, supplements, nervous system regulation, meditation, movement and other complementary and alternative therapies. Because everyone’s body and life circumstances are different, we’ll work together to identify what supports your unique day-to-day functioning.

This approach helps uncover potential root causes of emotional distress and empowers you with tools to manage and improve your mental health from the inside out.

Nervous System Regulation

Our autonomic nervous system (ANS) is responsible for many unconscious activities we depend on each day - breathing, heart rate, digestion, blood pressure regulation, sexual arousal, etc. It is also disrupted and made less resilient by daily stressors, greatly affecting our overall health. The good news is that we can increase the resiliency of this system through regulating activities. This allows us to decrease overall stress, increase restorative sleep, decrease inflammation, stimulate memory and new learning and much more. In our work together, you will learn the function of the ANS, the different (autonomic) states of our nervous system and tools to develop more nervous system resiliency.

Safe & Sound Protocol

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is an evidence-based listening therapy designed to reduce sound sensitivities and improve auditory processing, autonomic state regulation, and social engagement behaviors through filtered music.

As a practical application of Polyvagal Theory, the SSP acts as a non-invasive, acoustic vagal nerve stimulator, helping to re-tune the nervous system to better support connection, collaboration and resilience.

The SSP involves listening to specially filtered music through headphones alongside a provider, in-person or remotely. Suitable for children and adults, the SSP has demonstrated benefits for individuals with trauma, anxiety, sensory processing differences and more.
